The “Art” of Teepee-Making

Art Gordon (He Who Sits on a Whirlwind), our local Minnedosa teepee-making expert, spent last week teaching our students how to make a teepee.  To date, Art has constructed 50 prospector tents, hundreds of drums/drumsticks, and almost 700 teepees, some of which are in Europe, Africa, South America and Asia.   One of Art’s teepee’s is on display at the Smithsonian Institute!   This father, grandfather, and Harley motorcycle enthusiast started sewing in 1990 and shared what he has learned about teepee making and his creative talents with our students.

Last week, each TCS student helped Art make our school teepee and everyone created a design on a swatch of canvas that will be part of the teepee display.   The teepee will be set up in the library for all to visit sometime soon.

A dedication ceremony was held on Friday, May 24 afternoon with many of Art’s family in attendance.  Thank you, Art, for your contribution to our school!
